The 5% Project
At Shining Peak we’re strong believers that every business should have a social mission at its core. Our mission is for our beer to make the world a better place.
Every month 5% of our beer revenues from our venues, are donated to a different local Taranaki organisation. Not profits…… revenues, that’s approximately 30 to 50% of our venue’s profit – we give away to local organisations each and every month. No terms and conditions, no small print – we just put the money straight into the back pockets of important local organisations and charities here in Taranaki.

New Plymouth Playcentre
Playcentre is a unique, New Zealand-wide organisation dedicated to early childhood education.
New Plymouth Playcentre has been operating for 50 years, seeing thousands of families come through its doors.
We are a volunteer-based, parent-run centre. We cater for children from birth to school age, and believe that family/whanau are the first and best educators of their children and that children learn best when they initiate their learning through play.
Playcentre creates a sense of belonging as families share responsibilities and decision-making, strengthening and enriching our communities.This offers families the chance to play, grow and learn together, as well as forge meaningful friendships with other families.
A focus on child-led learning means that each day we offer a variety of learning and play experiences such as building, baking, painting, dressing up, crafts, music, and physical outdoor activities, sand and water play.
We are currently trying to raise funds to build a semi-enclosed outdoor area for our children to play and learn in all year round. Not only will this allow messy, sensory, building, and imaginative play during the winter months, but it will also serve as a shaded area during summer.
This is especially important for our younger tamariki, who need a shaded area to sit and explore their surroundings. We do not have a shaded area apart from the sandpit in the back area of our centre. Any contribution towards this project will be hugely appreciated by the children and families who attend New Plymouth Playcentre.
