DRINK BEER, DO GOOD

THE 5% PROJECT

At Shining Peak we’re strong believers that every business should have a social mission at its core. Our mission is for our beer to make the world a better place.

Every month 5% of our beer revenues from our venues, are donated to a different local Taranaki organisation. Not profits…… revenues, that’s approximately 30 to 50% of our venue’s profit – we give away to local organisations each and every month. No terms and conditions, no small print – we just put the money straight into the back pockets of important local organisations and charities here in Taranaki.

restore Eltham & Predator free taranaki

This month we are working with Restore Eltham & Predator Free Taranaki to raise funds for the predator control and protection of the native areas in the Eltham region.

Restore Eltham aims to protect and restore native species in the South Taranaki town, which is just 15km east of the predator-free Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve.

Eltham is set to enjoy the spillover of native and endemic species from the reserve so it is important it has sufficient habitat and predator control in place to protect that wildlife. Working closely with Towards Predator-Free Taranaki and other supporters Restore Eltham is working hard to set up and maintain traps in the town’s parks and walkways.

Restoration work is currently concentrated at Soldiers Park. Restore Eltham planted 1200 native trees in 2019, and 250 donated flaxes went into the wetland; the majority are now thriving.

Conservation work is hard work, ongoing, but hugely rewarding and worthwhile. Any money donated to Restore Eltham will go directly to protecting and restoring our native species, from the smallest bugs to the biggest native trees.

Restore Eltham wishes to acknowledge the financial and practical support of the Eltham community, Restore Taranaki, South Taranaki District Council, Forest and Bird, Ngaere School (which sells rat traps to the community), the Eltham Community Development Group, Eltham Lions and Department of Corrections work crews.

For more information follow Restore Eltham on Facebook.Towards Predator-Free Taranaki is a Taranaki Regional Council-led project working to remove introduced predators such as possums, rats and stoats from our region. Schools, iwi, community groups, individuals and businesses have got behind the project, which is seeing encouraging results.
