DRINK BEER, DO GOOD
THE 5% PROJECT
At Shining Peak we’re strong believers that every business should have a social mission at its core. Our mission is for our beer to make the world a better place.
Every month 5% of our beer revenues from our venues, are donated to a different local Taranaki organisation. Not profits…… revenues, that’s approximately 30 to 50% of our venue’s profit – we give away to local organisations each and every month. No terms and conditions, no small print – we just put the money straight into the back pockets of important local organisations and charities here in Taranaki.
Drink Beer, Do Good.

Autism Connex is a non-profit organisation which was started in 2014 by New Plymouth locals Patand Theresa Tongi. After two of their four children were diagnosed with Autism, Theresa and Patsaw the need to support and celebrate families in New Plymouth walking a similar journey.
The Autism Connex Family Day meet every month where a dedicated team of 25 volunteers create arelaxing environment where families are given the rare opportunity to relax and meet with otherfamilies. This is also the chance for their children to play in a fun and friendly environment wherethey are safe and their behaviours are not judged. Other monthly events include the popular ‘Mum’snight out’, ‘Coffee Morning’ and ‘Men’s breakfast’.
Autism Connex has recently become a Registered Charitable Trust with 11 board members with theirnewly appointed Patron, Sir Michael Jones. Currently operating from The Fred Tucker MemorialCommunity Centre in Bell Block, and with an average of 30 families in attendance every month, thisvenue is quickly becoming too small for what they would like to achieve.
Consequently, Autism Connex will continue to fundraise towards establishing a much needed,purpose-built Autism Centre here in New Plymouth. This multi-purposed complex would allowAutism Connex to continue their current program for families and extend to include additionalservices that are desperately needed in New Plymouth.
Services such as sibling support, respite care, vocational services, holiday programs for special needs children, sensory gyms and sensory rooms.Unfortunately, there are no facilities of this kind in New Zealand so Autism Connex hope to build thefirst in Taranaki. This month we are working with Parafed Taranaki, to continue their support of those with disabilities within the Taranaki community and their physical wellbeing.
