THE YARN BEHIND THE BREW
In the small Taranaki town of Manaia, there was once a curious claim - being home to more Citroën cars per capita than Paris, France. The reason? A local enthusiast, ‘Mad’ Max Suter-Mckay who couldn’t get enough of the quirky French machines as he peddled them to any and every prospective motorist that he could via his dealership, Waimate Motors.

Max went to unusual lengths to market his cars, such as driving them without a steering wheel to prove their safety. This hazy IPA pays tribute to Max’s runabouts by swapping Citroën for Citrus and Manaia for ‘Manilita’, a new experimental hop from Freestyle.

Mad Max is a brew using the brand new experimental hop 'Manilita', grown and distrubuted by Freestyle Hops in Tasman, NZ.

The 2025 Manilita was harvested on 24-Mar. This Mid harvested hop comes in T90 Hop Pellets from the A1 block(s) of Freestyle Hops Nelson Lakes farm. This Manilita lot has field aromas of Pink Grapefruit, Mango, Nectarine.
