THE YARN BEHIND THE BREW

Widely disliked due to the similarity between his ‘fictional’ characters and real life Hawera locals, South Taranaki author, Ronald Hugh Morrieson, was mostly unfazed, preferring instead to focus on his vices. His bigger concern was that his literary works would go unnoticed until after he was dead, which ultimately rang true as most of his works were published posthumously.

The Scarecrow, a depraved story of murderous misfortune was one of four feature films made of Morrieson’s works. Unfortunately, The Scarecrow couldn’t deter the inevitable ‘dirty bird’, with Ronald’s historical house eventually being demolished to make way for Hawera’s new KFC.

The Scarecrow is a fresh take on a classic American IPA. Lean malt profile with a hint of sweet caramel malt character, this is a big showcase of the Citra Hop character. Zesty Lime, Grapefruit and a hint of Catty dankness comes in alongside a big tropical hit from the Mosaic hops.
